BEARS Elementary Day Camps 2024

Grades 1–9

Curious Kids Create:
Science and Art Camp!

Grades 1-4 (Ms. Dimond)

Which is stronger, slime or glue? Have you ever made a seed bomb lollipop? Do you love to ask questions? Come investigate and create in this science and art camp. We will spend the week being curious and creative while we explore scientific questions.

Summertime in Sweden

Grades 1-4 (Ms. Chance)

Visit the land of the midnight sun! Learn about Sweden’s Midsummer traditions through art, food and games. Campers will create passports, make flower crowns, have a sack race and eat strawberry cream cake!

Sports, Fitness and Fun!

Grades 1-4 (Ms.Goodloe and Mr. Malik)

Join Ms. Goodloe and Mr. Malik for a high energy week of sports and PE games. This week will be spent outdoors, in the gym, and at Meade Park playing sports such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and floor hockey as well as some favorite PE games and minute-to-win-it challenges. We will also focus on healthy food choices that give our bodies optimum energy to play!

Safaris and South Africa

Grades 1-4 (Ms. Chance)

Come visit the rainbow nation where 11 different languages are spoken! Learn about South African culture and wildlife. Campers will make safari animal and basket crafts, learn traditional dances and discover ways to help the endangered species of South Africa.

Future Engineers:
Topping Towers and Building Bridges

Grades 1-4 (Ms. Megan)

Come build, problem solve, create, and explore as campers jump into the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)! Each day, campers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in one of these areas, working on projects that encourage cooperation and collaboration. Whether it is building bridges to cross an imaginary river, or brightening the world with beautiful works of art, campers are sure to grow in this exciting and engaging week of camp!

Rumba in Cuba

Grades 1-4 (Ms. Chance)

Let’s explore the Cuban way of life! Discover the colorful city life of Havana through photographs, books, music and dance. Campers will learn the rumba, play traditional games and create Cuban street art!

Broadway Junior Revue: Pure Imagination

Grades 1-7 (Mrs. Kelly and Ms. Theresa)

The perfect introduction to Broadway Junior for young performers!

Pure Imagination is a brand-new revue featuring songs from across MTI’s Broadway Junior® collection. From Broadway Junior musicals based on adored titles like Seussical and Shrek The Musical to Disney favorites like Beauty and the Beast and Frozen, Pure Imagination offers a fun introduction to musical revues for young performers who are new to musical theater.

**Please note that rising 1st and 2nd grade will go to Theater Camp in the morning and Afternoon Camp from 12:00-3:30**

Afternoon Camp for Rising 1st-2nd Graders
Let’s have some good ol’ summertime fun! Campers will play games, spend time outside, have station rotations, complete crafts and visit a local park!

Cultural Crafts

Come explore the world of craft based arts. In this camp, students will practice basket weaving, pottery, jewelry making, and fiber arts. We will look at cultural arts around the world and how they’ve influenced trends and art styles we see today. Come create!

Ciao, Italy!

Grades 14 (Ms. Chance)

Let’s travel to idyllic Italy! Discover the beauty of Italy through art, music, games and food. Campers will learn about local ingredients, make and eat a delicious Italian dish and throw coins into the Trevi Fountain!

STEM in Nature!

Grades 14  (Ms. Rachel)

Love science? Love animals? Join Ms. Rachel to explore the ways that different animals use engineering to navigate the world. Each day campers will do a different project that teaches us about the ways animals function as engineers. Let’s have some fun and learn together!

Excursion in Egypt

Grades 14 (Ms. Chance)

Did you know that the people of Egypt invented paper? We’ll learn about Egyptian culture, architecture and traditions. Campers will build sugar cube pyramids, decode secret messages using hieroglyphics, experiment with apple mummies and play Drop the Handkerchief!

Bookmaking:
Read, Write, Play!

Grades 14  (Ms. Kate)

Join friends on a reading adventure! Campers will experience all aspects of reading and writing while experiencing stories in many exciting ways. They will become authors, illustrators, and storytellers, and  embrace the joy of listening to many wonderful tales. Campers will also have the chance to be active and play outside, enjoying all that summer has to offer!

Across the Sea to Germany

Grades 14 (Ms. Chance)

Visit the land of poets and thinkers! Explore the Black Forest ecosystem and read German fairytales. Campers will make cuckoo clocks, spider slime and experiment with fizzy witch potions!

Travel across the universe in this cosmic camp. Learn about lunar landings, the make-up of the different planets, stars and constellations, and the mysteries that lie beyond our stratosphere.

Journey to Japan

Grades 14 (Ms. Chance)

Snow monkeys in hot springs. Oh my! Learn about Japanese culture and wildlife. Campers will learn facts, create their own uchiwa fan and origami, and experience a traditional tea ceremony!

Basketball Camps

(Rising 2nd – 9th grade)

Coach Malik will lead engaging basketball camps for all ages. Get exercise, practice fundamentals, and play hoops in the CDS gym!

    Rising 2nd – 4th graders (beginners-co-ed), 8:45-noon, with the option to sign up for afternoon camp, $285

Fireworks, Celebrations, and Picnics!

In this short 3 day week camp, kids will learn about summer celebrations. Campers will build noisemakers or musical instruments to join in celebratory fun, discuss picnic foods, and learn about the excitement of fireworks through art.

Dinosaur Detectives

Campers will leap into the Mesozoic Era when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Kids will become paleontologists exploring all about dinosaurs!

Magical Creatures
