Shannon is thrilled to return as the CDS Kindergarten teacher again this year. Shannon spent the 2018-2019 school year as a lead teacher on the Third and Fourth grade team where she fell in love with the community and culture of CDS. She then transitioned to Kindergarten where she has served as a gateway to elementary school for the Kodiak Bears for the last four years. Shannon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education. She student taught kindergarten at Meriwether Lewis Elementary School and mentored young students in Charlottesville City Schools through UVA’s Athletes Committed to Education. While at the University of Virginia, Shannon swam on the varsity swim team. She was a member of the All ACC Academic Team and was also recognized as an NCAA All American. She was named captain in her final year and was selected for the Student Athlete Mentor Council. Shannon developed a passion for working with children through coaching young swimmers. She coached for seven years at the Upper Main Line YMCA in Pennsylvania, and has coached here in Charlottesville for CYAC and Boar’s Head swim teams. Shannon enjoys developing athletes both in and out of the pool. In her spare time Shannon works with her family’s nonprofit childhood cancer foundation, Cure4Cam, which raises money to find more humane treatments for children with cancer.
